Virgil van Dijk has become the eighth player to captain Liverpool 200 times.

The No.4 brought up his double-century of matches wearing the armband in the Reds' Premier League clash at Brentford on Saturday, with 150 of them in the top flight.

He joined Steven Gerrard (470), Ron Yeats (417), Emlyn Hughes (335), Donald MacKinlay (293), Jordan Henderson (268), Alex Raisbeck (267) and Sami Hyypia (204) in reaching that milestone.

Van Dijk first led Liverpool out in a 4-0 Champions League win over Red Star Belgrade at Anfield back in October 2018.

Having also skippered the Netherlands since March 2018, the centre-half was named permanent Reds captain ahead of the start of the 2023-24 season.

The game at Brentford was Van Dijk's 383rd appearance for the club.
