World Cup: Alexis Mac Allister helps Argentina reach the final

Alexis Mac Allister helped Argentina reach a second successive World Cup final with a 2-1 victory over England.

The Liverpool midfielder played the whole of Wednesday’s last-four showdown in Atlanta.

England took the lead when Anthony Gordon converted from close range 10 minutes into the second half.

Mac Allister sent a header off the post as Argentina sought an equaliser, which was produced on 85 by Enzo Fernandez.

In stoppage time, Mac Allister was thwarted by the woodwork again as a low strike from the edge of the box hit the other post.

But when play was recycled, Lautaro Martinez nodded in a Lionel Messi cross to secure a comeback win for the holders.

Mac Allister and Argentina will now meet Spain in Sunday’s showpiece (8pm BST kick-off).
